Watercolour butterflies

Here's my post for the Make The Day Special blog  this week:

I have 2 cards to share with you today using butterflies by Layers of Color. I stamped the butterflies using Stazon on to watercolour paper before colouring them using Derwent Inktense pencils (for the pink butterfly) and Reeves watercolour wax crayons (for the pastel butterfly).

I then cut the butterflies out and added them to the cards (made using watercolour paper) before stamping sentiments using Unity stamps.

This one uses a stamp from Insightful Meadows and I've used watercolour pencils around the edge.

The second one uses the sentiment stamp from the Unity/ Webster's Pages Itty Bitty stamp - Dream Big . I added a few rhinestones at the bottom of this card.

Materials used: watercolour paper, Layers of Color stamps, Unity stamps, black Stazon ink, Reeves watercolour wax crayons, Derwent Inktense pencils, MAMBI rhinestones.

Make The Day Special Design Team Blog Hop

Welcome to my blog on this, the first, Make The Special Design Team blog hop!!! If you haven't come here via Lesley's blog then make your way back to the beginning at the Make The Day Special blog where you can see Emily's make and the fabulous prizes that will be won by the lucky few!!

Anyway, on to my project(s). I decided to work with the gorgeous Layers of Color Reindeer Waltz set and make some Christmas cards...yes I know it's June and stinking hot but I thought it may cool me down a bit.

I started by making tags using techniques that I saw first when Tim Holtz was demonstrating the 12 tags of Christmas last year. I was originally just going to make the one card but as you can see that plan fell by the wayside LOL!

The tags were inked with distress inks before stamping the flourishes on. I then stamped a frame on the tag before embossing with distress embossing powder and then stamping the reindeer in the centre of the tag. The edges of the tags were then distressed and inked again.
The card bases are all 5" x 7" and the background papers were stuck on before adding the tags and embellishments. I have used Prima flowers and some of my (rather large) button collection.

Materials used: Papermill cardstock, Papermania papers, distress inks and embossing powders, Layers of Color stamp set - Reindeer Waltz, black Versafine ink, Studio G stamp, Prima flowers, Kaisercraft rhinestones.
Also used: vintage glass and plastic buttons, organza ribbons.

Right then - now on to the prizes. To be in with a chance to win one of the fab prizes on show over at the Make The Day Special blog you'll need to leave a comment. Winners will be chosen at random from comments left on all the design team members' blogs. All comments need to be left by 10.00 BST on Monday 28th so be sure to check back or become a follower to see if you win!!

We also decided to give away our makes so if you fancy winning this set of cards pictured above....yes all 4 of them......leave me a comment here!

Right then....you should be off to see Jane next and thanks for visiting!!

Card Patterns sketch #69

Here's my card for the Card Patterns sketch this week. It's a while since I played along there but as I seem to be more in to cardmaking than scrapbooking at the moment I'm doing the rounds of my favourite challenge blogs:

The circular frame was cut on my Craft Robo using a free file by Monica.

Materials used: Papermill cardstock, DCWV kitchen Mat Stack papers, Layers of Color butterfly stamp, Memento ink,  Stickles, Prima flowers and flower centres, Wild Orchid paper roses, Scenic Route chipboard sentiment, Hobby House rhinestones, Crafty Notions Rainbow Drop.

(Layers of Color stamps can be bought in the UK from Make The day Special).

The Play Date Cafe - PDCC32

This week's colour challenge over at The Play Date Cafe was definitely a challenging one for me as peach and yellow are 2 colours I hardly ever use:

I did try to limit myself to just the 3 colours and neutrals but found that I had to add a few leaves in green. All the flowers and leaves are stamps by Layers of Color from the Flowering Gems set. I stamped them in Memento ink and then coloured them with Promarkers before cutting them out, adding gemstones and layering on the card with different depth foam dots.

Materials used: Bazzill cardstock, Provocraft paper, Papermani paper, Layers of Color stamps, Heidi Grace sentiment stamp, brown Memento ink, Promarkers, Martha Stewart border punch, Hobby House rhinestones, Crafty Notions Rainbow Drop.

If you're in the UK and want to buy Layers of Color stamps go to Make The Day Special.
